These two cheeky chaps came in with their Mum and Dad last week and were great fun in the studio. It was really nice to see them play and have a good laugh together. My own family is growing, with a second boy due in October, and I hope our sons will have just as close a relationship as  Jimmy and Freddie.

They came in for the last Kodak Awards session for this year and I got some great shots of the whole family and of Amelia, who was a real star on the day. Let’s the images I selected as competition entries will grab the judges attention.

How often do you hear of guitarists building their own guitars? This young man certainly had the patience to create his own instrument and had the courage to bring it to the studio for his family’s photo-shoot. Let’s be honest, it doesn’t sound like a guitar, but at least his efforts led to some great portraits. This is one of my favourites.

I feel really lucky to have a studio here at Briston Orchard in St Mellion, Cornwall. This is the view that welcomes me when I get to work at the moment. Can you think of a better place to work? I can’t!
All the families that come to have their portraits taken seem to really like it too. Wouldn’t you?

If you fancy spending some time having fun in the studio, and enjoy the delightful environment that is Briston Orchard, why not book a photo-shoot? Check out our website for the latest offers and get in touch; I’d love to show you around and photograph your family!

If there was an equivalent of a frequent flyer pass for photographic portraits, Rowan & Lottie would surely get one. I have photographed them every year for the last 3 years and it is always a pleasure to see them again.

This time, we shot some images specifically for the Kodak Portraits Awards and I am really pleased with the results. Let’s hope that one of Rowan and Lottie’s images wins the competition and that they get to share the £1000 prize with their mum & dad… they deserve it.
If you too want to get a chance to win the top prize, why not register HERE for a free photo-shoot? You will also get 10% off our full product range?

HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!

Snow at Briston Orchard, home to Ethos

…and a big thank you to all our customers who trusted us to capture their families on camera in 2009. We hope that your portraits will bring you a little bit of happiness for many year to come. We are especially grateful to our returning clients. It is extremely encouraging to see people who came to Ethos when we just started, return to us with a new addition to their family or simply to update their previous portraits. It’a amazing how much kids grow in just a couple of years.

There is no point in denying that it has been a shaky year for Ethos. As everyone started to tighten their belt and prioratise spending, we experienced some difficult months but now feel that things can only get better in 2010. In fact Ethos is coming out of the recession as a more dynamic business, that can offer even better value for money and a wider range of services.

We are quite excited by the prospect of doing more school photography this year, and we are also looking forward to working more closely with selected charities. On the portrait side of things, we really want this year to be our best ever for awards. This may feel like a slightly vain thing to pursue, but entering images into the Kodak Portrait Awards and the Master Photographers Association National Awards means stepping up our creative effort to match and exceed the standards of past winners. In turn, this means even better quality portraiture for our clients, and still at very affordable prices.

So Goodbye 2009, we liked you, but you were a bit gloomy sometimes, and Welcome to 2010, a brighter, better year, if a little cold so far!
