If there was an equivalent of a frequent flyer pass for photographic portraits, Rowan & Lottie would surely get one. I have photographed them every year for the last 3 years and it is always a pleasure to see them again.

This time, we shot some images specifically for the Kodak Portraits Awards and I am really pleased with the results. Let’s hope that one of Rowan and Lottie’s images wins the competition and that they get to share the £1000 prize with their mum & dad… they deserve it.
If you too want to get a chance to win the top prize, why not register HERE for a free photo-shoot? You will also get 10% off our full product range?

We have just introduced some new sizes in our prints range so you can now order larger mounted prints and still do the framing yourself.

Also, a recent change of suppliers for our books range means that we have been able to extend our books options and even lower their prices. So really, there is no reason not to book a family photo-shoot with Ethos.

THE PLAN

Now that the New Year is properly underway, it’s time to start focussing on specific events that will determine my training plan. I feel this year could be my best year on a bike so far, simply because of the quality of the events available in the South West.

Here is a list of the events I’m entering this year, so if you are in the area, you can always come and cheer by the side of the road:

  • 11th April: The Lakeland Loop Cycle Sportive in Cumbria. A tough 100 km event to start the season with, as it includes some pretty serious mountain passes such as Hardknott Pass.
  • 16th May: North Cornwall Tor. The route looks superb this year, as it goes down all the way to the South Coast, making this 100 miles event almost a coast to coast adventure.
  • 6th June: Dragon ride. A new one for me, and tough I’ve been told.
  • 26th – 27th June: Exmouth Exodus (night ride), followed by the Dartmoor Classic – About 210miles over a period of less than 20 hours. Needless to say, that will be my big challenge for 2010. I’m going to do that one for charity, all funds collected goig to Sustrans, who dedicate their effort to make cycling more accessible, safer and more enjoyable for everyone in the UK. Please donate generously HERE.
  • 18th July: Two Moors 100. 100 miles over Exmoor and Dartmoor. We can expect good weather, so it should be a great ride.
  • September: Either La Lapebie or Les Routes du Ventoux, both in France of course.
  • October: Dartmoor Devil. I bailed out of that one last year, so I need to complete the next edition.

CORNWALL BOY NEXT BIG PHOTOGRAPHY TALENT?

Photographing this young man with his dad’s Leica camera really sent me back to my early teens, when I used to take pictures with my own father’s handed down Fuji ST705. I was 11 or 12 and struggling to comprehend concepts such as f stops, depth of field, ASA sensitivity and so on, but it was just so exciting to get it all to work out and create my first proper photographs.
I’m glad my parent supported me in my desire to become a professional photographer. I now make a living from doing what has always been a passion for me… How brilliant is that? Good luck to you young man, follow your dream!
